Wired connection setup for Netgear DG834G


To setup your router for a wired connection please follow these steps.

 

Step 1 Connecting your router

First connect your computer/laptop to your router.

  1. Plug your microfilter into the master phone socket
  2. Plug your phone into the Phone port on the microfilter
  3. Connect your router to the micro filter ADSL port using the ADSL cable
  4. Connect your computer/laptop to the router using the Ethernet cable (RJ 45/CAT5)
  5. Plug in the router power cable and turn on the router
  6. After a couple of minutes your ADSL light should now be on solid. My ADSL light is off / flashing.

 

Step 2 Connecting to the internet

Before you start to setup your router, make sure you have your Broadband username and Broadband password to hand.

You can find these details in your welcome letter or by calling 0870 087 5562 from your TalkTalk landline. You will not be charged for this call.

Follow these steps to setup your router:

  1. Open a web browser such as Internet Explorer, Firefox or Safari
  2. Type http://192.168.0.1 into the address bar and press Enter on your keyboard

    Note: Do not type www.

  3. You will be asked to enter a username and password. Enter admin as the username, and password as the password. Click OK

  4. Click Basic Settings on the left-hand side of the screen.

  5. Enter your TalkTalk Broadband username into the Username box and your Broadband password into the Password box.

    Note: The next two images are examples only. Please do NOT change your Wireless Network Name (SSID) or Wireless Network Password to match the details in the images.

  6. Ensure the following settings are correct and click Apply:

    Encapsulation is set to PPoA (PPP over ATM)
    Internet IP Address is set to Get Dynamically from ISP
    Domain Name Server (DNS) is set to Get Automatically from ISP

  7. Click ADSL on the left-hand side of the screen.

  8. Ensure the following settings are correct and click Apply:

    Multiplexing Method is set to VC-BASED
    VPI is set to 0
    Domain Name Server (DNS) is set to Get Automatically from ISP
    DSL Mode is set to Auto (Multi-mode)

  9. Click WAN Setup on the left-hand side

  10. Enter 1432 in the MTU Size box and click Apply

Setting up a wireless connection

Now that you are set up using an Ethernet cable, you can continue to use your router this way, or you can set up your wireless connection to access the internet wirelessly around your house.
