TalkTalk Help

How do I set my Parental Control Preferences?

Your Parental Control Preferences allow you to restrict access to and hide certain channels and content, helping you to protect younger viewers from material you’d rather they not see. It’ll allow you to lock adult rated programming with your YouView PIN, and applies to both Live TV and On Demand content.

For more information on managing your Parental Control Preferences, select a question from the list below:

What will my Parental Controls restrict?

When active, your Parental Controls will lock certain types of content, allowing it to only be accessed after entering your four digit YouView PIN. Depending on which option you choose, this can include all programmes or films that are rated either:

  • PG and over
  • 12 and over
  • 15 and over
  • 18

Once set, it’ll be applied to all live TV, on demand content and any programmes that have been recorded after the 9pm watershed.

Your Parental Controls also let you hide any content found in the Adult Category from your YouView Guide and On Demand menu. This can help prevent younger viewers from finding  content you’d rather they didn’t.

How do I view programmes once my parental controls are set?

If you have set up restricted access to rated content, you will need to enter your four digit YouView PIN each time you try to watch rated content before the watershed. This will depend on the rating you chose when setting up your Parental Controls.

You’ll be asked to enter your PIN after you select the rated programme you’d like to watch from the guide or after entering the channel number using your remote. Remember, this applies to all content including live TV, on demand content and channels broadcast over broadband, like those that come with the Sky Movies Boost.

How do I change my YouView PIN?

You can learn about changing your YouView PIN and much more in our YouView PIN guide.

Why does Sky Movies always ask for my YouView PIN?

The Sky Movies channels are the only channels on YouView that do not follow the watershed and can play movies at any time. Because of this, we are required to protect it with your YouView PIN, even when the Parental Controls are turned off. When watching the channels after the watershed you shouldn’t be asked to enter your YouView PIN when selecting a film.
