Kids Safe and Homework Time are part of our free HomeSafe package aimed to protect your children online. Kids Safe lets you block websites you think are unsafe or unsuitable for your children or teenagers. Homework Time lets you set times to block access to social networking and game websites.
We allocate websites to categories based on the content of the site. This makes it easy for you to set what type of content you wish to block. You will see prompts to help you decide what categories to block when you activate the service.
We review the websites in the categories on a daily basis. However if you feel a site should be added to a category then please let us know using the Feedback option under HomeSafe. You are also able to manually add up to nine websites to your own custom-made list.
When you try and access a website that is blocked by Kids Safe you will see a TalkTalk-branded blocking page. This page will give you the option to return to your previous page, or ask you to change the blocking settings (this requires you to log into My Account). The account holder will not receive notification if someone attempts to access a blocked site.
Websites that fall into the categories you selected in the Kids Safe options will be blocked on all devices using the TalkTalk broadband connection. This includes games consoles, mobile phones and tablets that use a web browser.
HomeSafe will not work with applications installed on your phone or computer as these communicate in a different way to a web browser. We are exploring what other security features we can add to HomeSafe in future.
If you access a website through a VPN or a browser that holds its own cache of websites HomeSafe will not block them as they are not being provided by the TalkTalk service.
Unfortunately no system is 100% failsafe, but Kids Safe and Homework Time do help to protect your family from inappropriate websites.
Kids Safe is unable to prevent or warn you about Cyber-abuse as it filters websites rather than the messages from individuals. For more advice on Cyber bullying and keeping your children safe online, visit our Online Safety Centre.
We can't block the content presented by search engines as these are links to the sites rather than the sites themselves. However some search engines offer their own filtering controls.
If you have a website and believe it is being blocked incorrectly by HomeSafe™ then please email email@example.com, stating as a minimum your responsibility for the website (e.g. you may be the administrator, the site owner, or owner of the business advertised), the full name of the domain or url being blocked, and the category you believe it is being blocked under (e.g. Dating). This feedback will be reviewed by TalkTalk and changes may be made to HomeSafe™ as a result. However, TalkTalk will not reply to these requests nor enter into correspondence.
