Any new customer that signs up to our SimplyBroadband, Essentials TV or Plus TV will get the latest wireless router as part of the package. However, if you are an existing customer you might want to upgrade.
Upgrading your router can provide you with better broadband speeds and better wireless coverage, so it’s always worth being as up to date as possible.
If you’re thinking about upgrading, here are some frequently asked questions that can help.
For best results, we recommend that you buy your new router from TalkTalk. These are configured to work on our network, so will offer you the best performance – and are much easier to set up than routers from other manufacturers.

You can. However, you might find that setup is a little more difficult this way. On TalkTalk routers, the router connection settings are already configured to work on our network. If you use a router from another manufacturer you’ll have to enter these details manually on setup.
We can only offer limited support on routers that aren’t from TalkTalk. For detailed help and support, you’d need to visit the manufacturer’s website.

Currently, TalkTalk offers two routers. These are:
The Essentials router is a little cheaper and perfect for general users. It has two Ethernet ports meaning you can connect two devices by wired connection at the same time and you can connect more by wireless connection. You’ll get this for free when you sign up for SimplyBroadband and Essentials TV plan.
Our Plus router is our most powerful router. It’s a bit more, but ideal for those customers that want a little bit of a boost, such as those on Plus TV and our Superpowered Fibre customers. Plus routers offer better speed and Wi-Fi range than the Essentials router. It also allows customers to connect up to four devices by wired connection at one time and even more by wireless connection. You’ll get this for free when you sign up for a Plus TV plan.

You can track your router order from My Account. To do this:
1. Log in to My Account
2. Click track order on the top left of the screen
3. Click view your delivery status to find your tracking number
4. Now head over to Royal Mail Track and Trace to track your delivery
5. Simply enter in your 13 character reference and click Track to get an update on your delivery status
Alternatively, contact our customer service team on 0870 444 1820 for free on your TalkTalk phone and we will be able to provide you with a tracking number.
There’s nothing special you need to do. Simply replace the old kit with the new kit you receive in your router box.

Yes you can. Recycling old routers is great for the environment and helps reduce both yours and TalkTalk’s carbon footprint.
To recycle your old router, simply contact our customer service team on 0870 444 1820 for free on your TalkTalk phone and we’ll provide you with a pre-paid returns bag to send your old router back to us in.
Updating your router software can help increase speed and help you get the best out of your broadband connection. Although the change might not be as great as getting a new router, you should notice the difference.
