TalkTalk Mobile barring

Sometimes it's a good idea to block some of the ways you use your phone to help keep your bill down. We can help with that. TalkTalk Mobile offer a range of bars that you can use at home or abroad. Below you'll see the bars we offer and how they work.

How do I add or remove a bar on my account?

Please contact us and we’ll take care of it. Calls to Customer Service are FREE from your TalkTalk landline, or your TalkTalk mobile on 5888.

If you've had a bar added or removed, you may find some services like the internet and photo messaging stop working. To fix this, please restart your phone to refresh your connection to the network.

Your roaming bars are automatically switched on when you join TalkTalk Mobile. You will need to remove them before you travel abroad. Please see Using TalkTalk Mobile abroad for more information.

  • Roaming bar - Restricts the use of mobile services while outside the UK. You'll need this bar removed if you want to make and receive calls and texts without the risk of running up a large bill for data
  • GPRS Roaming bar - Restricts the use of mobile internet (GPRS) services on the international network while outside the UK. You can still make and receive calls and texts if just the Roaming bar is removed. You can also access the internet if you connect to a Wi-Fi hotspot with this bar in place
  • GPRS Roaming and Roaming bar - Switching on both bars restricts all use of mobile services while outside the UK. You can still access the internet through a Wi-Fi hotspot

Premium calls and texts can be very expensive, especially as some subscription services send you regular texts and charge you to receive each one. We offer the Premium bar to help you control your usage and your bill. You can check your TalkTalk Mobile usage anytime through My Account.

  • Premium call bar - Stops  premium rate calls being made from your mobile
  • Premium texts bar - Stops premium rate texts being sent and received on your mobile
  • Premium call and texts bar - Stops all premium rate calls and texts being sent and received from your mobile

Content Control is designed to stop anyone under 18 from accessing inappropriate content and services  on the internet.

Content Control is automatically switched on with most of the devices we offer, including Nokia, Samsung, HTC and Apple, but not BlackBerry devices. We can only manage 18-rated content where control access to the internet through our server. This includes:

  • Chat and dating services
  • Pornography
  • Gambling
  • Violent games

If you have lost or had your handset stolen, please see How to report my phone lost or stolen.

If you exceed the maximum texts, phone calls or data usage included in your plan, you will start to accumulate out-of-bundle charges. We set a cap on these charges, so you don’t accidentally run up excessively high bills. We'll send you a text and email reminder when you’re halfway to this limit, and again when you reach it.

For more information, including how to get back online, please see Mobile usage alerts.

If you have been barred:

  • You WILL still be able to call emergency services including 999 and 112
  • You WILL NOT be able to call non-emergency services including 101 (non-emergency police number)
