Understanding charges

The below table will help you understand the most common charges that may appear on your bill. For call charges, see How much do calls cost?

If your bill is more than normal, please see your breakdown of charges which will detail any charges applied to your account.

Essentials Router

This is the charge for a router you have recently ordered from us 

Privacy Pack

This is the charge for the privacy pack service which enables you to see who is calling you before you answer a call & if this number is in your phonebook, you'll also see their name

TV

This is the charge for your YouView TV service

Direct Debit Rejection Charge

This is a charge we've applied as we have not been able to collect a Direct Debit payment from your nominated bank account due to the payment being rejected. To understand common reasons for the rejected payment please see: My Direct Debit has been rejected

We recommend that you make a one off payment for this month, you can do this online. Alternatively you can make a payment using our automated service by calling  0870 087 8749

Charge: £10

BrightSparks Engineer - TV Install

This charge has been applied as we sent a BrightSparks engineer to your home to install YouView TV. The date of the charge may not necessarily be the the date the visit occurred

Charge: £65

YouView Box

This is a subsidised charge for the YouView Box you ordered. If you leave us before your contract has expired, we may apply a further charge for this equipment

12 months Value Line Rental

This is the charge for 12 months line rental at a discounted rate

Charge: £180.36

Plus Router

This is the charge for a router you have recently ordered from us 

Contract Breakage Fee

This fee has been applied as you disconnected your TalkTalk package before your contract period had expired.

Speedy Install Kit

This is the charge for a TV Speedy Install kit that you have recently ordered from us

BrightSparks Engineer - Service Fault

This is the charge for a BrightSparks engineer visit due to a recent fault identified at your property.  The date of the charge may not necessarily be the the date the visit occurred

Charge: £65

Fibre Optic Router

This is the charge for the new router we supplied when installing your Fibre

Fibre Optic Activation Fee

This is the charge for activating the fibre service on your line

Contract Breakage Fee Waiver

This is the amount we've applied to your bill to cover the costs of the contract breakage fee. A contract breakage fee is generally applied  when an account is disconnected before the contract end date.

Equipment Charge

This is the charge for Powerline adaptors that a BrightSparks engineer has fitted during TV installation. In some instances this charge could relate to a router you have ordered

Fibre Welcome Credit

This is a credit we've applied as part of a promotional offer to welcome you to our Fibre service.

BrightSparks Engineer - Missed Appointment

This is the charge for a missed BrightSparks engineer appointment

Charge: £30

Engineer Charge

This is the charge for an Openreach engineer that has recently visited your property. The date of the charge may not necessarily be the date the visit occurred.

Connection Charge

This charge is for the connection of your TalkTalk service. This is a one off charge generally applied on your first or second bill.

Powerline Single Port

This is a charge for a Powerline adaptor that you've recently ordered from us

Remote Control Replacement

This is the cost for a replacement remote control for your TalkTalk YouView Box

This is a charge for a Powerline adaptor that you've recently ordered from us

What are Powerline adapters?

Change Package Fee

This is the charge for downgrading from a fibre package to a non fibre package

Change Package Fee Waiver

This is the amount we've applied to your bill to cover the costs of the change package fee. A change package fee is generally applied when you downgrade from a Fibre to a non fibre package.

Payment Rejection Fee

This is a charge we've applied as we have not been able to collect a payment from your debit/credit card account due to the payment being rejected. 

We recommend that you make a one off payment for this month, you can do this online in My Account. Alternatively you can make a payment using our automated service by calling  0870 087 8749

Charge: £10

BrightSparks Engineer - Modify TV

This charge has been applied as we sent an Engineer to your property to install your YouView TV service. The date of the charge may not necessarily be the date the visit occurred.

Charge: £40

BrightSparks Engineer - Home Move

This charge has been applied as we sent an Engineer to your property to install your YouView TV service following a home move.  The date of the charge may not necessarily be the date the visit occurred.

Charge: £35

TV Router

This is the charge for a router you have recently ordered from us.

Recurring Card Payment Fee

This is the charge for paying by recurring card payment.

Money saving tip - In order to prevent this charge appearing on future bills, we recommend you set up a Direct Debit with us. You can do this online via My Account

Line Rental 

 

This is a monthly rental charge for providing you with a telephone line.

If you've recently joined TalkTalk, then you'll only pay line rental to us & this will be from the date your service went live until the end of your billing period. We charge in advance so you'll also pay line rental for the month ahead.

Charge: £16.70

Essentials Broadband and Phone

This is the monthly charge for your TalkTalk Essentials package. It is not possibile to remove this item from your bill.

If you've recently joined TalkTalk or changed your package then you'll pay part month charges for TalkTalk Essentials from the date the package went live until the end of your billing period. We charge in advance so you'll also pay for TalkTalk Essentials for the month ahead.

Money saving tip - If you make daytime calls, you could potentially make savings by adding Anytime calls boost which gives you free calls to UK landline numbers

Essentials TV, Broadband & Phone

This is the monthly charge for your Essentials TV package. It is not possibile to remove this item from your bill.

Talk International Evening & Weekend

This is the monthly charge for your Talk International Evening & Weekend package. 

Talk Total Anytime

This is the monthly charge for your Talk Total Anytime package.

If you've recently joined TalkTalk or changed your package then you'll pay part month charges for TalkTalk Total Anytime from the date the package went live until the end of your billing period. We charge in advance so you'll also pay for Talk Total Anytime for the month ahead

Talk 3

This is the monthly charge for your Talk 3 package.

Talk UK Evening & Weekend

This is the monthly charge for your Talk UK Evening and Weekend package.

If you've recently joined TalkTalk or changed your package then you'll pay part month charges for Talk UK Evening & Weekend from the date the package went live until the end of your billing period. We charge in advance so you'll also pay for Talk UK Evening & Weekend for the month ahead

Talk UK Weekend

This is the monthly charge for your Talk UK Weekend package. 

If you've recently joined TalkTalk or changed your package then you'll pay part month charges for TalkTalk UK Weekend  from the date the package went live until the end of your billing period. We charge in advance so you'll also pay for TalkTalk UK Weekend for the month ahead

Talk UK Anytime

This is the monthly charge for your Talk UK Anytime package.

If you've recently joined TalkTalk or changed your package then you'll pay part month charges for Talk UK Anytime from the date the package went live until the end of your billing period. We charge in advance so you'll also pay for Talk UK Anytime for the month ahead

Talk 2

This is the monthly charge for your Talk 2 package. 

If you've recently joined TalkTalk or changed your package then you'll pay part month charges for Talk 2 from the date the package went live until the end of your billing period. We charge in advance so you'll also pay for Talk 2 for the month ahead

Calling Features Boost

This is the monthly charge for your calling features boost which includes the following services: Call Divert, Call Waiting, Ring Back, 3 Way Calling, Caller Display & Reminder Call.

If you've recently added this boost to your account then you'll pay from the date the boost went live until the end of your billing period (which is a few days before we produce your monthly bill) We charge in advance so you'll also pay for this boost for the month ahead

SimplyBroadband/Essentials TV: £4.10/Month

Anonymous Caller Reject

This is the monthly charge for the Anonymous Caller Reject calling feature which allows you to reject callers that have with-held their number.

If you've recently added this service to your account then you'll pay from the date the service went live until the end of your billing period.  We charge in advance so you'll also pay for this service for the month ahead.

Charge: FREE

Call Divert

This is the monthly charge for the Call Divert calling feature which allows you to divert calls made to your landline to your chosen destination.  Once you switch on this facility you'll be charged for the cost of the diverted call.

If you've recently added this service to your account then you'll pay from the date the service went live until the end of your billing period. We charge in advance so you'll also pay for this service for the month ahead.

Call Waiting

This is the monthly charge for the Call Waiting service which allows you to be notified that someone is trying to call you whilst you are on a call.

If you've recently added this service to your account then you'll pay from the date the service went live until the end of your billing period. We charge in advance so you'll also pay for this service for the month ahead.

Money saving tip: If you would like to use additional calling features, it may be worthwhile adding Calling Features Boost which includes the following services: Call Divert, Call Waiting, Ring Back, 3 Way Calling, Caller Display & Reminder Call.  You can add this boost in My Account.

Charge: £2.55/Month

Caller Display

This is the monthly charge for the Caller Display service which allows you to see who is calling you if you have a compatible phone. 

If you've recently added this service to your account then you'll pay from the date the service went live until the end of your billing period. We charge in advance so you'll also pay for this service for the month ahead.

Last Caller Barring

This is the monthly charge for the Last Caller Barring service which allows you to block the person who called you last from calling you again. This works for up to 10 numbers and is charged at £3.25 a month.

If you've recently added this service to your account then you'll pay from the date the service went live until the end of your billing period. We charge in advance so you'll also pay for this service for the month ahead.

Reminder Call

This is the monthly charge for the Reminder Call service which allows you to set an alarm for a time of your choice.

If you've recently added this service to your account then you'll pay from the date the service went live until the end of your billing period. We charge in advance so you'll also pay for this service for the month ahead.

Ring Back

This is the monthly charge for the Ring Back service which you can use if the person you are calling is engaged. The ring back service will notify you when they're off the phone and will connect you too.

Three Way Calling

This is the monthly charge for the Three Way Calling service which allows you to talk to two people at the same time.

Voicemail Plus

This is the monthly charge for your voicemail service which allows you to leave a personalised greeting for your callers. You can also check or listen for messages from another phone whilst you're out.

Africa & Asia Extra

This is the monthly charge for the Africa & Asia Boost.

If you've recently added this service to your account then you'll pay from the date the service went live until the end of your billing period.  We charge in advance so you'll also pay for this service for the month ahead.

Charge: £3.06/Month

Anytime UK Calls Boost

This is the monthly charge for the Anytime UK Calls Boost.

If you've recently added this service to your account then you'll pay from the date the service went live until the end of your billing period.  We charge in advance so you'll also pay for this service for the month ahead.

Charge: £7.50/Month

Unlimited Mobile Minutes Boost

This is the monthly charge for the Unlimited Mobile Minutes Boost.

If you've recently added this service to your account then you'll pay from the date the service went live until the end of your billing period.  We charge in advance so you'll also pay for this service for the month ahead.

Charge: £5/Month

Global Saver

This is the monthly charge for the Global Saver Boost which offers discounted rates to overseas.

If you've recently added this service to your account then you'll pay from the date the service went live  until the end of your billing period.  We charge in advance so you'll also pay for this service for the month ahead.

Super Safe Boost

This is the monthly charge for the Super Safe Boost.

If you've recently added this service to your account then you'll pay from the date the service went live until the end of your billing period.  We charge in advance so you'll also pay for this service for the month ahead.

International Boost

This is the monthly charge for the International Boost.

If you've recently added this service to your account then you'll pay from the date the service went live until the end of your billing period. We charge in advance so you'll also pay for this service for the month ahead.

Picture Box Boost

This is the monthly charge for the Picture Box Boost.

If you've recently added this service to your account then you'll pay from the date the service went live until the end of your billing period.  We charge in advance so you'll also pay for this service for the month ahead.

Paper Bill Charge

 

This is a paper bill administration charge, you can save £22.80 a year by registering for online billing.

Charge: £1.90/Month

Non Direct Debit Admin Fee

This is an administration charge for not paying your bills by Direct Debit. You must have an active Direct Debit when your bill is produced to prevent this charge being applied.

You can save £54 per year by setting up a Direct Debit.

Charge: £4.50

12 Months Half Price Call Plan Promotion

This is a an offer we have applied to give you half price call plan for 12 months. 

Fibre Medium - up to 38mb

This is the monthly charge for the Fibre Medium service.

If you've recently added this service to your account then you'll pay from the date the service went live until the end of your billing period. We charge in advance so you'll also pay for this service for the month ahead.

New Line Fee

This is the cost for installing or re-activating a line in your property

500 Global Minutes Boost

This is the monthly charge for the 500 Global Minutes Boost.

If you've recently added this service to your account then you'll pay from the date the service went live until the end of your billing period. We charge in advance so you'll also pay for this service for the month ahead.

Charge: £5/Month

New Line Welcome Credit

This is a credit we've applied as part of a promotional offer to welcome you to our service 

Fibre Large - up to 76mb

This is the monthly charge for the Fibre Large.

If you've recently added this service to your account then you'll pay from the date the service went live until the end of your billing period. We charge in advance so you'll also pay for this service for the month ahead.

Entertainment Boost

This is the monthly charge for the Entertainment Boost.

If you've recently added this service to your account then you'll pay from the date the service went live until the end of your billing period.  We charge in advance so you'll also pay for this service for the month ahead.

Kids Boost

This is the monthly charge for the Kids Boost.

If you've recently added this service to your account then you'll pay from the date the service went live until the end of your billing period.  We charge in advance so you'll also pay for this service for the month ahead.

Sky Movies Boost

This is the monthly charge for the Sky Movies Boost.

If you've recently added this service to your account then you'll pay from the date the service went live until the end of your billing period.  We charge in advance so you'll also pay for this service for the month ahead.

Entertainment Extra Boost

This is the monthly charge for the Entertainment Extra Boost.

If you've recently added this service to your account then you'll pay from the date the service went live until the end of your billing period.  We charge in advance so you'll also pay for this service for the month ahead.

TV Starter Boost

This is the monthly charge for the TV Starter Boost.

If you've recently added this service to your account then you'll pay from the date the service went live until the end of your billing period.  We charge in advance so you'll also pay for this service for the month ahead.

CLI Recall

This charge is applied if you dialled 1471 and pressed 3 to return a call. The cost of this call is 20p

Voicemail Call Return

This charge is applied if you listen to a voicemail and choose the option to return a call.  The cost to return a call using this is 37p each time

Services G6

These numbers are generally used by small or large businesses for sales, enquiry & customer service lines. The cost of these calls are 6.62p on all TT plans at all times & include a call connection charge of 15p. You can find the cost of other non geographic numbers on our pricing pages.

Premium Rate

Premium rate numbers are mainly used for competitions, TV voting, horoscopes, chat lines, adult lines, recorded information & professional advice services.

Calls to these numbers vary. Some may also include call connection charges of a similar price.  For details on specific costs please see our Pricing document.

YouView Box - Deferred Charge

Your Essentials TV or Plus TV package will have included a free set top box as well as your TalkTalk TV services. If you are still in contract with TalkTalk and do not return your YouView Box, a deferred set top box fee of £75* will apply.

*For cancelations prior to 24th May 2014, please refer to the terms and conditions for details of the deferred set top box fee

Commitment Breakage Fee

All Boosts come with a minimum commitment period. As you cancelled your Boost prior to the end of the commitment period a fee has been applied.

Fibre Commitment Breakage Fee

This fee has been applied as you cancelled your Fibre Broadband before your commitment period had expired.

Advance Month Charges

These are monthly charges that you pay in advance for your line rental, package and any additional services you may have such as Boosts eg Anytime UK Calls Boost  or International Boost.

SimplyBroadband

This is the monthly charge for your TalkTalk SimplyBroadband package. It is not possible to remove this item from your bill.

Connection Fee Credit

This is a credit we've applied as part of a promotional offer to welcome you to our service 

Free Wireless Router

This is to show that you have received a router free of charge.

Replacement Wireless Router

This shows that a free replacement router has been supplied.

Half Price Wireless Router

This is the reduced charge for your wireless router

New Line Fee Credit

This is a credit we've applied as part of a promotional offer to welcome you to our service 

Home Move Fee

This is the charge to complete your home move

BrightSparks Engineer - Cancelled Appointment

This is the charge for a cancelled BrightSparks engineer appointment

Charge: £25

YouView+ Box

This is a subsidised charge for the YouView+ Box you ordered. If you leave us before your contract has expired, we may apply a further charge for this equipment

Fibre Broadband Activation Fee

This is the charge to install your fibre broadband service

Missed Appointment

This is the charge for a missed engineer appointment

This is the charge for the engineer that installed your service

Wireless N Adaptor

This is the charge for the USB wireless adapter you have recently ordered from us.

YouView+ Box Speedy Install

This is the charge for your YouView+ installation pack

BrightSparks Engineer - Speedy Install Help

This is the charge for the BrightSparks engineer to help you with your TV installation

Aerial Cable

This is the charge for the aerial cable which you have recently ordered from us

Power Cable

This is the charge for the power cable which you have recently ordered from us

Half Price Powerline Dual Port

This is promotional charge the white powerline adapters you have recently ordered from us.

Half Price Powerline Single Port

This is promotional charge the black powerline adapters you have recently ordered from us.

YouView Box Deferred Charge - Box Not Returned

As you cancelled your TV service within the minimum term and the YouView box was not returned a deferred charge was applied

YouView Box Deferred Charge Waiver -  Box Now Returned

This credit is to reverse the YouView box deferred charge that was previously applied to your account.

YouView Box Deferred Charge - Faulty Box Returned

As you cancelled your TV service within the minimum term and the YouView box was you returned was faulty a deferred charge was applied

YouView Box Speedy Install

This is the charge for your TV installation pack

Delivery Charge

This is the charge to deliver the equipment you have recently ordered

Sky Sports & Movies Boost

This is the monthly charge for your TV Boost. - If you've recently added this service to your account then you'll pay from the date the service went live until the end of your billing period.  We charge in advance so you'll also pay for this service for the month ahead.

Sky Sports 1 & 2 + Sky Movies 1 & 2

This is the monthly charge for your TV Boost. - If you've recently added this service to your account then you'll pay from the date the service went live until the end of your billing period.  We charge in advance so you'll also pay for this service for the month ahead.

Sky Sports 1 & 2 + Sky Movies 1 & 2 + ESPN Bundle

Sky Sports & ESPN Boost

This gives you free calls to 36 international destinations

Standard Security

This is the charge for the standard security boost. We recommend upgrading to the Super Safe Boost to make sure you are getting the latest protection.

Premium Security

This is the charge for the premium security boost. We recommend upgrading to the Super Safe Boost to make sure you are getting the latest protection.

Variety Pack

This is the monthly charge for your TV Boost. - If you've recently added this service to your account then you'll pay from the date the service went live until the end of your billing period.  We charge in advance so you'll also pay for this service for the month ahead.

Sony TV Asia + Zee TV

Sony TV Asia

Zee TV

Sky Movies 1

This is the monthly charge for your TV Boost. - If you've recently added this service to your account then you'll pay from the date the service went live until the end of your billing period.  We charge in advance so you'll also pay for this service for the month ahead.

Sky Sports 1234 & F1 + Movies 1

This is the monthly charge for your TV Boost. - If you've recently added this service to your account then you'll pay from the date the service went live until the end of your billing period.  We charge in advance so you'll also pay for this service for the month ahead.

Sky Sports 1234 & F1

This is the monthly charge for your TV Boost. - If you've recently added this service to your account then you'll pay from the date the service went live until the end of your billing period.  We charge in advance so you'll also pay for this service for the month ahead.

Sky Sports 1234 & F1 + ESPN
