YouView Box start up & standby

Your YouView Box is designed to run as efficiently as possible, so it has a variety of features to help save energy and keep your bills low.

Starting Up

The time it takes for your Box to power up or come out of standby mode depends on your Eco-Mode settings. YouView BoxDue to European Law, all devices must be set to default in High Eco Mode to save energy which means your Box will take a little longer to get started. If you choose to, you can lower the Eco Mode setting which will help the Box to hibernate and start up quicker.

To change the Eco-Mode, follow the steps below:

  1. Press the YouView  button on your TalkTalk remote

  2. Select Settings, then Device Management

  3. Select Eco-Mode and choose High or Low

  • HIGH - the most efficient energy cost saver, with slightly longer load times

  • LOW - less energy efficient, but your box will load up a little faster.

Automatic Standby

To save energy, your YouView Box will automatically go into standby mode when not in use. This means if you fall asleep in front of the TV, forget to turn the box off or leave the room it will take care of itself for you. Before your Box goes into standby mode, it will count down to give you time to press OK on your TalkTalk remote and keep it active.

To personalise the time before automatic standby, follow the steps below:

  1. Press the YouView YouView button on your TalkTalk remote

  2. Select Settings, then Device Management

  3. Select Automatic Standby Time and choose from 2, 3, 4 or 12 hours.

  4. Press OK to confirm your settings.

My Box won't start up / is stuck during start up

Your YouView Box comes with two power buttons, an on/off switch on the back of the Box and a power button on the front. If you're having problems starting up your Box, make sure it's connected properly and try switching it off and back on again via the two buttons to see if this fixes the issue.

If your Box gets stuck at Nearly Ready, Waking Up or Please Wait please contact us so that we can look into this further for you.

We're always adding improvements to the YouView Box, so it's a good idea to keep it connected to the internet and on standby overnight to make sure you can benefit from the latest software and new features.

Blank Screen

If you see a blank screen, and have set your TalkTalk remote to control your TV, this usually means you just need to select the right source for your Box by pressing the source or AV button (depending on your remote model). Visit our Remote Guide for further help.
