Port my number - To TalkTalk Mobile

Your TalkTalk mobile SIM card needs to be active before you can transfer your existing number.

Please activate your SIM by following the steps in Activating TalkTalk Mobile

 

Do I need to do anything before I transfer my existing mobile number to my TalkTalk SIM?

If you're transferring your number from another network you'll need to request a Porting Authorisation Code (PAC). You can do this by calling your current mobile Customer Services team and ask for a PAC. If you have fulfilled your contract agreement with them they will give you this free of charge. Please note, if you're still within contract they may charge you to issue a PAC and end your contract early. 

It's also a good idea to use up any calls and texts credit with your current network. You'll be able to enjoy our great rates and inclusive minutes, texts and data as soon as your number has been transferred.

 

 

How do I transfer my existing number to TalkTalk Mobile?

You need to activate your SIM for it to appear in My Account. Once activated you can then transfer your existing mobile number to your TalkTalk SIM. This will only take a minute.

1. Insert your TalkTalk SIM into your mobile phone. 

2. Call 2883 from your mobile to activate your SIM. This is free of charge and should be a quick call. You can also activate your mobile service from a landline telephone. Please call 0870 087 8751 and make sure you have both your Bank Account details and the new TalkTalk mobile number handy (this is for security reasons). Our secure automated activation process will ask you to enter the last 4 digits of your Direct Debit account number. This is the bank account you are using to pay your monthly TalkTalk Mobile bills.

3. Request the transfer yourself online through My Account. You'll need your PAC, your current TalkTalk mobile number and the number you wish to transfer. You will be able to choose a preferred transfer date (Monday to Friday) and your number will transfer on that day. We’ll do the rest and keep you up to date throughout the transfer with text alerts.

 

What happens on the transfer day?

Your existing mobile number will be transferred to your TalkTalk SIM on your allocated transfer day. As a little reminder we'll send a text message to the number you're keeping on the day of your transfer. 

Important notice

You'll experience some loss of mobile service between the hours of approximately 11am and 5pm. As the transfer is dependent on your old mobile provider releasing your number, we cannot confirm the exact time this will happen. We'll make sure we transfer it over as quick as we can with the least disruption to your service.  

What do I need to do?

Keep using your old SIM in your mobile until you lose service (signal bars lost) and you may also get a message e.g. "SIM card registration failed". If you've signed up for a new mobile phone with us, you may want to have both phones with you today while your number transfers over. Your TalkTalk Mobile SIM will already be active with a TalkTalk Mobile number and this will be deactivated as part of the transfer process. 

Please note: On your TalkTalk Mobile SIM you may find that all services will not start to work at the same time on your transfer day. You might be able to make calls but not receive them until your mobile number has fully transferred to us. You'll still receive calls on your old network SIM until we've fully completed your transfer so you shouldn't miss any. 

It's advisable to switch your phone (with the TalkTalk Mobile SIM in it) off and on every hour or so until everything works correctly.

Transfer complete - You'll be able to make calls and texts with your existing number, use the internet and listen to your voicemail messages as normal. You're all done!

Transfer incomplete - You may not be able to receive calls or use the internet on your TalkTalk Mobile SIM may say something like 'SIM card registration failed'. Please switch your phone off and on and try again in an hour or so.   

What happens if my number didn't transfer?

If your number still hasn't transferred on the following day, please call our Customer Services team on on 0870 087 8751 who'll be happy to help. 

 

 

Can I still use the TalkTalk mobile number once my number has been transferred?

No, on the day of the transfer your TalkTalk Mobile number will cease as we begin the transfer process. This can be at any point during the day.

 

 

What happens if I've already used part of my TalkTalk tariff allowance?

If you have used part of your monthly allowance using the TalkTalk mobile number, the remainder of your monthly allowance will be available on your existing number once it has transferred.

 

 

How do I cancel my request to transfer my mobile number?

You may cancel your request to transfer your mobile number up to 4pm the day before the transfer date. Cancellation requests may only be submitted on a working day, Monday - Friday.

To cancel the transfer and keep the TalkTalk Mobile number instead, log in to My Account, go to Transfer Your Mobile Number and select the cancel button. 

 

 

How do I transfer from a SIM only to a handset package?

If you wish to upgrade your existing TalkTalk mobile SIM only to a TalkTalk handset, just select the TalkTalk SIM you wish to transfer when you place your order. You can upgrade yourself online through My Account.

How do I get a PAC from TalkTalk Mobile to take my number to another provider?

If you’re thinking about leaving TalkTalk Mobile and would like to keep your number, please call our Customer Services on 0870 087 8751. We’ll be able to provide you with a Porting Authorisation Code (PAC) that will enable you to keep your mobile number.

If you’re still within contract there may be a charge to leave us early. We’ll be happy to discuss all your options when you call us.
