Using your TalkTalk SIM card in an iPhone

iPhone support for SIM only

You may find your iPhone is locked to a different network. This is not a problem, but you will need to get it unlocked before you can use your TalkTalk mobile SIM. Please see Contact numbers to unlock your phone for more information.

Please select below the iOS you are using for a simple step-by-step guide on setting up your iPhone for internet browsing and picture messaging.

If you're not sure what iOS your iPhone is running, tap Settings in the main menu and then tap General and then About. Under Version you will see the iOS you are using and the number will need to start with a 6 or 7. Then select the settings from the options below:

Step 1 - Delete existing profiles

Before you can set up your iPhone for TalkTalk Mobile you'll need to delete any old setting profiles that are on your phone. Complete this simple step to check if you have an old profile on your iPhone and remove it.

From the main iPhone menu tap Settings, then General and then Profiles. If you do not have the Profiles option in your menu, please continue from Step 2

If you have an existing profile please tap Remove

Step 2 - Insert SIM & power on

Power your iPhone off, insert your TalkTalk Mobile SIM and then power on again. When the iPhone has started up you'll see your usual homescreen. If you are unsure how to insert your SIM card please see Apple's support page or check out your manual.

You'll shortly receive an SMS (text message) from us advising that your new settings are on the way, followed by another message containing the link to download them.

If you do not receive a text message within a couple of minutes please text the word "talk" to 40127 and we'll resend them to you.

Step 3 - Connect to a Wi-Fi network

You'll need to be connected to Wi-Fi to download the settings. Check you have the Wi-Fi icon on your phone and if not turn it on.

To turn Wi-Fi on, from the main iPhone menu tap Settings, then Wi-Fi and then choose your network

 
 
 

Step 4 - Tap the link

Tap the blue text link in the message you have received from TalkTalk.

Click link

Step 5 - Tap Install

Click Install

Step 6 - Tap Install Now

Click Install Now

Step 7 - Tap Done

Click Done

Step 8 - Update MMS settings

You'll now need to manually update the MMS settings so they match the information below. 

From the main iPhone menu tap Settings, then General, then Mobile/Cellular and then tap Mobile/Cellular Data Network

Check MMS settings

The settings need to be corrected to these:

  • MMS APN: mobile.talktalk.co.uk
  • Username: leave blank
  • Password: leave blank
  • MMSC: http://mms.talktalk.co.uk/servlets/mms
  • MMS Proxy: 212.183.137.012:8799
  • MMS Max Message Size: 307200
  • MMS US Prof URL: leave blank

Please note: If you connect your iPhone to iTunes and perform the carrier settings update, your iPhone will display Talkmobile next to the signal on your phone instead of Vodafone. If this is done you will need to manually update your MMS settings again to the above settings.

Troubleshooting step - Reset Network Settings

From the main iPhone menu tap Settings, then General, then Reset and then tap Reset Network Settings

Please note: This step will delete your Wi-Fi settings. You'll need to re-connect to your Wi-Fi network manually after resetting the network settings. Please return to Step 3 and follow the iOS6 guide again.
